Files and folders

Where downloads are saved, how to change the folder, and what My Files, Downloads, and history each hold.

Three screens deal with files, and they hold different things. Knowing which is which answers most "where did it go" questions.

Where downloads are saved

Open Settings → Files & Folders.

  • Location is the folder every download is written to. Choose Change to pick another one.
  • Download Format is the file-naming pattern, [title]_[quality] by default, so a 1080p clip called Sunset is saved as Sunset_1080.mp4.

The confirmation step before a download starts also shows the destination, and lets you override the name and folder for that one file. See Your first download.

Opening a file you have downloaded

Go to Downloads → Completed and use the row's actions:

  • Open launches the file in your default application.
  • Folder reveals it in Finder or your file manager — the quickest answer to "where did it go".
  • The row also offers re-downloading the source and removing the entry.

The list supports searching by name and sorting, so a long history stays usable.

My Files

My Files is a record of what you have extracted, not of what you saved. Each row carries the page title, its URL, the source site, and when you extracted it, so you can return to a source without pasting the link again.

9xbuddy My Files listing extracted Instagram and YouTube sources with thumbnails, URLs, sites, and times
Extracted sources from Instagram, YouTube, and search. My Files remembers the source; downloaded files live under Downloads → Completed.

Use filter by name to search the list, the × on a row to drop one entry, or Clear All to empty it.

Removing a row from My Files, or an entry from Completed, clears the history record. It does not delete the downloaded file from your disk — use your own file manager for that.

If a file is not where you expect

  1. Check Settings → Files & Folders → Location; the folder may have been changed since.
  2. Use the Folder action on the completed row, which reveals the file's actual location rather than the current default.
  3. If the file was moved or deleted outside 9xbuddy, the entry stays in the history but the file is gone — download it again from the row.
