Web search
Live answers from the web with sources you can check, plus reading any page or YouTube video you link.
Models know what they were trained on. Web search gives them today: ask about this morning's news, a product launched last week or the current price of something, and the assistant searches, reads the best pages and answers with citations you can open.
Web search is part of Pro and included in the 3-day trial. See Free and Pro.
como funciona
Web search is built from three tools in Library → Tools, all switched on from the start:
| Tool | que hace |
|---|---|
| Search Web | Searches the web for your question |
| Read Webpage | Opens a page and reads it in full |
| Cite Sources | Attaches the sources the answer used |
There is no switch to flip. Ask a question that needs current information, or say "search the web for...", and the assistant decides when to search. While it works, the reply shows Searching the web....
To point it at one page, paste the link and ask about it. Read Webpage reads it for you. A YouTube link works the same way through YouTube Transcript.
Checking the sources
A reply that used the web ends with the sites it read, shown as small icons and a count such as 3 Citations. Click it to open References, the full list of sources with their links, so you can read the original yourself.
Getting better results
-
Ask for recent information explicitly: "What changed in the latest release of..." makes it clear the answer must come from the web.
-
Name the sources you trust: "Use the official documentation" or "Compare three reviews".
-
Use a skill: the built-in Research With Sources skill asks the assistant to cite every claim. See Tools, Skills, and MCP.
-
Choose the tools per chat: type
/tin the composer to pick exactly which tools this chat may use.
Turning it off
Open Library → Tools, choose Search Web or Read Webpage, and use Disable tool. The assistant then answers from the model's own knowledge.
Privacidad
A web search sends the search query to the search provider, and reading a page fetches it from that website. Your conversation is not sent to either. See Privacy and data flow.
