Updates and versions
How 9xLyrics updates itself, where the version number is, and what to send with a report.
Lyric sources change, players change how they report themselves, and operating systems move things. Most "it stopped finding lyrics" reports are fixed by a build that already exists, which is why the version you are on is the first thing worth checking.
Check your version
It is printed at the bottom of the Settings sidebar, beside the account and support buttons — for example v1.0.0. Quote it in any support message.
That version number is also a button: it opens what's new in the build you are on, and turns into an update notice when one is waiting.
How updates arrive
The desktop app updates itself. When a build is ready it tells you, downloads it, and installs it on restart. Tray › Check for updates… asks straight away rather than waiting for the next check.
Update checks pause while your machine is asleep and resume a few seconds after it wakes.
You can always fetch the current build by hand from the download page, which is the source of truth for what is released.
Linux
An AppImage does not update itself — replace the file with a newer one from the download page. A .deb installed through your package manager updates the way your other packages do.
What changed in each build
Release notes for every version are published at 123sudo.com/changelog/9xlyrics. Clicking the version number in the sidebar opens what that build changed, without leaving the app.
Reporting a problem
Send support:
- The version number from the sidebar.
- Your operating system and its version.
- The player you were using, and whether Settings › General › Music player reports it as detected.
- The song — title and artist — if it is about a specific one.
- What you expected and what happened instead.
Your UID is not needed to report a bug, and should not be sent unless support asks for it about a licence.
